Effective January 1, 2022, the Lead Service Line Replacement and Notification Act (LSLRNA) (Public Act 102-0613) replaced the former lead materials inventory requirements found in the Illinois Environmental Protection Act at 415 ILCS 5/17.11. The first purpose of the LSLRNA is to require owners and operators of community water supplies to develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive water service line material inventory and replacement plan. A well-developed materials inventory will allow communities to be able to prioritize and strategize the replacement of known lead service lines within their water distribution system. Service lines are underground water pipes that connect homes or buildings to a source of drinking water such as a water main or private well. Water service lines are owned by property owners. When these service lines are made of lead, they can be significant contributors to lead contamination of drinking water. The City will have a survey form available for each water service user to complete. The survey can be found on the City website at www.cityoflitchfieldil.com, by visiting the City’s Facebook page, City of Litchfield, IL, mailer to the residence, or by picking it up at 120 E Ryder Street, Litchfield. Surveys are requested to be returned by October 30th. You may return by dropping in the utility bill drop box, provided stamped envelope through the USPS, or by completing online. The information received in the survey will allow the City to complete the LSL Inventory. The City will then apply for funding to assist with lead service line replacements. If you have any questions, contact Bill Grider at 217-324-8151.
