Biographical information: Bill Dees was born in Granite City, Illinois moving to Litchfield in 1955. He was reared as one of 6 children in the family and educated in the Litchfield school system graduating from LHS in 1970. He is married to the former Margaret Becker daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Vernon Becker. She is a teacher at the Litchfield Middle School. They are the parents of two adult children Jason a marine biologist, of San Antonio, Texas and Sarah Schwartz, a first grade teacher of Hull, Illinois. Bill Dees received a bachelor's degree in Occupational Education in 1988 from Southern Illinois University and an Associates Degree in Architectural Design in 1972 from Lincoln Land Community College.
Experience: Bill Dees has served as chairman of the Litchfield Zoning Board. He has served as past chairman of the Litchfield City Planning Commission under the administrations of Mayors Ralph Redfern and Dorothy Mansholt for 6 years.
Following his graduation from Lincoln Land Community College, Dees spent 28 years as a highway designer and production technician for a large consulting engineering firm in Springfield. He was responsible for design, plan production and specifications for county highways and urban street and sewer developments. In this capacity he acted as resident engineer on several Springfield city projects.
He recently completed working with the Sesquicentennial History book committee during their four year book project. He is a member of Holy Family Parish and is currently serving on its Finance council and Debt buster committees and is a past member for six years of the Springfield Catholic diocesan pastoral council. Dees is the current co-president of the Capital Area Career Centers membership Association.
Issues: Bill Dees believes that he can bring to the council a sense of what city infrastructure issues need to be addressed and solved. Including frequent street surface and basement flooding. Dees believes that long term planning need not be talking about spending money but saving money using a solutions oriented approach to city government. He believes that the council has a responsibility to work cooperatively with city employees, county and state officials to promote our city and a better life for our citizens.
