Sesquicentennial Video Available
A Commemorative DVD set of Litchfield's 150th Sesquicentennial Celebration is now available. The City of Litchfield, Illinois was 150 years old in 2003. A huge three-day Sesquicentennial Celebration was held on the weekend of July 4. Many of those events held at the Litchfield Carnegie Library downtown and at Lake Lou Yaeger were captured on film by Dale Bishop of Digital Video Designs. The two DVDs set was professionally filmed on high-quality digital cameras and was edited by Bishop. It was professionally narrated by Ross Bagley who has done narrative work for The Family Channel, Discovery Channel and PAX TV.
Some of the many highlights of the for-hour, two DVD set include: Mayor John Dunkirk's opening and closing remarks of the celebration; The Kenny Gordon Rafter G Chuck wagon from Oregon, Missouri and his cowboy crew; The Zion Lutheran Youth and Ice Cream Man's old fashioned ice cream social; the No Limits Power Tumbling members performance at Library Park; members of the cast and chorus of "The Promise" performing several beautiful and moving songs; the Fun Run-Walk; the Litchfield High School band's patriotic concert featuring "Testimonials to Liberty" which was narrated by Representative Gary Hannig. Also included are highlights of Litchfield's biggest Fourth of July fireworks display at the Lake and the All-Year Class Reunion held at Litchfield Municipal Airport where over 1500 alumni and friends attended.
Also featured are the Calico Twirlers square dancing performance; the Battle of the Bands winner "Push One-Eighty"; the Crabtree Ringers horseshoe tournament; the Arch Rivals ski club from lake St. Louis, Missouri; John "Doc" Morrissy and the Great American Street Organ; and recording artist Billy Whitefox-from Panama City, FL, performing with Jerry Dowding from Hillsboro, IL on their Native American flutes.
The DVDs include the Litchfield Carnegie Library's open house and shots from the Litchfield Train Group's large collection of model electric trains. The Hometown Sing is included which Ray Morales of the First Baptist Church led. The two huge parades, "Decades of Memories" and "150 Years of Progress-Transportation Parade" were held during the Sesquicentennial Celebration. This set features all parade groups, individuals, floats and horses.
Another fun event was the town's attempt to hold the "Largest Community Picnic" which also is on the commemorative set. Bishop was the official videographer of the Guinness Book attempt. Hundreds of people lined State Street, had their picnic baskets ready and ate and drank simultaneously at 12:30pm on Sunday.
Another event featured is the Heartland Chautauqua. It was a week-long event held in late June; the record-breaking tent raising-where volunteers, including local laborers, helped set up the Chautauqua tent in just over 38 minutes-and short clips of the actor-scholars who portrayed individuals who lived during the Lewis and Clark expedition.
This video was produced for future generations to look back and enjoy the efforts of numerous people who are proud of Litchfield, Illinois. It included scenes of hundreds of [people who helped celebrate the City's 150th birthday.
Cost of the four-hour, two DVD set is $29.95 and can be ordered by contacting Dale Bishop at www.digital-video-designs.com or (217) 324-5679.
