Litchfield Fire Department
Announces that the City of Litchfield, Illinois will be accepting Applications to establish an eligibility list for the position of: Firefighter / Paramedic

Orientation will be held on Dec 8 @ 7:00pm at the Litchfield City Hall, 120 East Ryder St. Litchfield.
Attendance at Orientation is mandatory to take the test

Written Test will be held on Dec 9 @ 8:30am at the Litchfield High School, 1705 N. State St. Litchfield

Current Qualifications Required For Testing:

• Must be at least 21 years of age, but under 35 unless exempted by Illinois State Statute
• Must be a United States Citizen
• Possess a High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Hold a valid Driver’s License
• Must complete an application


CPAT with Ladder Climb
Candidate Physical Ability Test
CPAT is the term used to describe a pass-fail, physical ability test developed by the International Association of Firefighters and the International Association of Fire Chiefs. As a standardized test, it has become a method of assisting fire departments in insuring the candidate is physically capable of performing the tasks associated with firefighting. It is a reliable measure of the candidate’s ability to carry out fire scene activities.
The tasks include: Stair Climb, Equipment Carry, Hose Drag, Ladder Climb/Extension, Forcible Entry, Rescue Drag, Search, Ceiling Breach and Pull

Valid CPAT cards from other authorized testing centers may be accepted
Upon successful completion of the timed test, candidates are issued a CPAT Identification Card. The test procedures involve registration, orientation, practice, timed course sessions, and the final CPAT test.

• Must Pass Written Examination
• Submit to and Pass a Background Check
• Must hold current CPAT Card at time of job offer
• Must hold a valid Illinois Paramedic License at the time of job offer
• Must successfully complete the Springfield SAMIC or Memorial protocol exam within 90 days of hire
• Successful completion of one year probationary period
• Residency within the 62056 zip code within 180 days of hire date
Additional preference points shall be awarded for Military Service with Honorable Discharge and prior experience. Points will be awarded after eligibility list is established.
