The City of Litchfield, IL is actively seeking a highly motivated individual to lead the Building Department as Building Inspector. The Building Inspector performs building, electrical and mechanical inspections pertaining to the construction, alteration, repair, and maintenance of commercial, industrial and residential structures for the City of Litchfield, while enforcing all applicable laws and codes. The position reviews plans and specifications for building permits and performs all field inspections on industrial, commercial, and residential buildings; issues building, occupancy, and special use permits to citizens after all codes and/or ordinances have been met. Enforces comprehensive regulations for the control of signs and other street graphics.
Coordinates with Police Department on derelict properties and condemnation and demolition process. Works in partnership with the Police Department on nuisance and code violations remediation. The Building Inspector is responsible for managing public infrastructure projects and oversight of construction. The position shall coordinate with the City Engineer on City projects that require engineering services.
The Building Inspector shall be responsible for Zoning Administration and supervise Zoning staff. Assists with zoning process and serves as a liaison to and is responsible for oversight of the Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals.
Position minimum: Associates Degree in a related field with 7-10 years of experience in Building Inspection/Code Enforcement or Construction related job experience. Preference will be given to applicants with a Bachelorís Degree and 5 years of experience and for ICC Certification. A combination of education and experience will be given consideration.
